hello all, I'm new to the corvette world just got a 79 that needs work. I've had it for about a week. List of known problems:
only gauge that works is the fuel.
all the weather strip is trashed
it runs.....or did went to start it today and ended up with a puddle of fuel under the car and intake.
make a long story short i need to find a good shop book that shows me what i have compared to what i should have, and how to take things apart and put back together. I've seen a couple on the internet just wanted to ask before i put out 50-100$ and get the wrong thing.
thanks ahead of time

Buy the Helms (Publisher) Chevy Shop manual. I would also purchase the AIM. (Assembly instruction manual).

just a quick note here. Sounds like the floats are stuck in the carb. First make sure fuel isnt leaking from any fitting. Have a fire extehisher handy..dont want your "baby" to burn, or your house//do your fuel work outside, not in the garage.

You can swap the old q-jet for a new one or get a holley or eldebrock & the starting, leaking problems go away. Keep the old carb in a box. The guages are controlled by a memory board right behind them. Ecklers or Mid-America sells the board, that should fix them. Take your time read before you start any job take digial pic's to see how things go back together & you'll do fine. Post pic's of the new ride.

Welcome aboard! You've found the right spot for help with all your corvette projects.

There are several posts on here with specific lists on what to do when starting with an old car. An assistant is helpful.

Take a good look around the fuel pump and the bent rubber hoses that attach to it.

The AIM is like $25 thru Corvette Central. It'll show you how things were before the previous owners "fixed" things.

Good luck and enjoy.
