Restoration Question; "Stingray" Emblem Adhesive
I have a 73 vert which is coming back from paint tomorrow. I have most everything ready to go back together but I cant figure out the best way to reattach the Stingray (fender) emblems. They have the three prongs and there was thin dual sided adhesive gasket material on the back.
I cleaned the backs of the emblems and now I am wondering if there is a replacement for the backing w/ adhesive material available.
I have looked at all the standard vendor web sites but I dont see anything listed other than new emblems themselves.
I prefer not to buy new emblems as mine are fine.
Suggestions?
Cheers,
Crunch

I bought a roll of the 3M automotive double stick tape, placed it over the back of the emblem and then used a razor blade to trim it to the outside of the letters.

I don't use any adhesive at all. Whenever I detail the car I just pop them off and when I'm done just press them back in. I've never had them fall off either. Just my $.02.

I use no adhesive with new paint the holes will be tight or need opened up to make the emblem fit. If you worry about them falling off inside the fender put on one trim nut.

I just detailed mine and put em back on after we painted the car. It looks like its designed just to stay in with pressure. Mine aren't even close to coming off.

I would also agree with the people who put 3M tape. I'd use the tape designated for automotive trim. That's how the GM replacements for my 79 came.

available at most automotive paint suppliers.
I asked one day ... What is best to reapply my emblems ?
reply: "emblem tape" (two sided sticky foam tape).
As noted previously, razor off unwanted areas.
In a pinch ? A few spots of weather strip adhesive would do the trick.

The one you get in the catalog have both tape and pins.If you don't have holes jvst clip off the pins as close as you can get,you might have to use a small file to get it down below the tape.Them just stick them on.
