Default time to start again

I was working in my garage and decided that it was time to get serious with getting my 73 454 on the road again.

I found a check list that I made in Jan 2006 that showed the mileage on the vette was 85,575. I checked my odometer and the mileage is now at 85,925. WHAT?? I could not believe that it has been sitting for more than a year, and I only drove it 50 miles.

Now the reason that it sat for so long may turn out to be a bad fuel pump. At least I am hoping that is the reason. Last January the car would start and idle good, but when you get it around 2000 or 2500 rpm, it would bog down, and die. It ran great as long as you didnt give it any gas.

I replaced the follwing items.
Spark plugs...no change
Spark plug wires ....no change
installed Petronix ignition system...no change
replaced fuel filter....no change
replaced carb....no change
checked all vac. connections.....no change

So I parked it and did some minor details to other parts
of the car. Now after doing some reading I am hoping that the fuel pump is not giving it enough gas when it needs it.

I drove the car around the block Sunday. Top speed was 10 mph. Any faster and it would bog down, sputter, buck, and stop running. It restarts fine, and as long as it is putting along at 10mph...its great. The downside is I wont get to work on it for two weekends. Easter is coming up, and I cant do any car work.

85,925 - 85,575 = 350
You wanted to see who was paying attention hahaha. I read "50 in a year" and was thinking wtf????

Good luck with the completion of your project.

Sounds like my 74 454. I put about 60 on it last year. My lack of mileage is due to changing the exhaust system 3 times, changing the intake and carburetor, etc. I also work around 60 hrs a week, I'm a newleywed, and have a baby on the way. This is why I never finish what I'm working on and don't get to drive very often.

Hey thanks for finding my math error. Still 350 miles in a year doesnt sound that much better.Thats only 30 miles per month.

I guess my insurance company will be happy. I told them I drive it less than 5000 miles per year. I am checking into a fuel pump, and hope to get that installed in 2 weeks.
