Here's what I do know. All 1968 Corvette steering columns were painted to match the interior color (at least the column section between the steering wheel and instrument panel). The paint should be semi-gloss.
Here is where I need your help. What is the correct (NCRS) finish of the column section between the steering wheel and the instrument panel?
Specifically, is that column section smooth? Or, textured?
Mine is smooth. April build date. Hub is metal and is smooth; upper trim is hard plastic and smooth; lower trim is fiberglass and shows only a hint of vinyl pattern; ditto for the dash piece -- only a hint of vinyl pattern. Horn button is grained.
Semi-gloss matching the trim color would be correct for the column.
try Krylon semi-flat. If your car has a black interior, it's #1613.........looks great and matches
I did the center console and the upper part of the console (above the radio) with Krylon 1613. The match between the old finish and new finish is really good.
I too also have a '68 with an April build date, and the description Easy Mike provided on the steering column is how my steering column appears.
