Default Tranny speedometer drive gear

I've got a 68 small block 4 speed car. The original came with a 3.27 rear end ratio. Over the years the differential was replaced with a 3.08 ratio, probably from an automatic car.
Is there a 4 speed speedometer drive gear for the tranny available for a 3.08 ratio?

The gear you are refering to is the speedo driven gear that needs to be changed. They are available from Zip Products and other vendors. There is a chart that tells which color gear and the number of teeth for different ratios and tire sizes, perhaps someone has it handy to post. But this link will show you what you need:

Problem is, that I'm not sure if there was one made for the 3.08 since I dont think that combo was available (3.08 and 4 speed).

......Then you will have to calculate to get it close. Take out the present one and count the teeth. Each tooth difference is about 3 mph difference. You may have to try a couple replacements to get it right. (Sorry, I don't have the chart to provide the numbers).

OK, one followup question, do you have to remove the manual transmission tail to change out the gear?

No.....the DRIVEN gear is the one at the end of the speedo cable and is easily removed. (The DRIVE gear is in the tranny and requires tail removal.)

Knew it came out on an automatic tranny. Guess I'll have to pull mine and count teeth. Much easier if I dont have to pull the tranny tailstock. Thanks!
