IS THIS THE BEST..........WHAT OTHERS DO YOU GUYS LIKE ?
The Milton 1260 is the top of the line. You should be able to pick one up for between $55-$70. I have had mine for years or you can go the cheaper route and get the Chineze copy from Harbor Freight for under $20. It looks pretty close to what the Milton looks like but not exact. Don't know how long it will last or how well it works for sure but for the money it isn't like it would make one go broke if they purchased one. Put it this way it is better then having nothing at all to use and if it works well and lasts you make out.
I just checked out the voltage of my battery after I charged it for an hour and it reads only 9.08 volts..I called Sears and the "expert" says that that's normal. Exqueeze me but isn't a 12 volt battery supposed to have 12 volts?? Any comments are helpful...Thanks again, Larry
"12 volts" is merely a point of reference ... actual voltage (unloaded) should be around 13.6 volts for a fully charged battery with alternator OFF .... charging voltage from the alternator will read around 14.2 volts or so. 9 volts ain't even close, but depending on the charge rate and how 'dead' the battery was before charging it is probably not at full charge after 1 hour. But then again I am not an 'expert' ... I have worked 30 years in the electronics/nuclear power fields but never at Sears .
Glad you found the culprit! I am chasing the same gremlin in my '69 ... but I am subscribing toward the bubba wiring theory ... I disconnect my battery between uses to prevent the drain. My new AM/FM/CD unit with bezel is sitting on the workbench calling my name .... one weekend the center console will come out and new stuff will go in.
Oh yeah ... and the wiper logic is messed up too ... if I find anything interesting I'll post pictures!

HEY, MY OTHER VETTE IS "NUCLEAR POWERED" ......... CAN YOU HELP ?
VIOLA....IT WAS THE BATTERY. Thanks for you help out there, I thought I was going to be in for an expensive re-wire project. Much appreciated........Larry from Wisconsin.
I would have gone back to sears after it went dead the first time. You lost a few days trying to fix someone else problem.
By the way what city in Wisconsin are you in. I am from Wisconsin too!

Having the Milton Testor would of eliminated any guessing here. Just bringing it back to Sear really wouldn't of solved the problem. If someone goes out and buys a new battery and installs it in their car and it starts the car chances are there is nothing wrong with the battery. If it goes dead it was probably caused by your car while it was installed. In this case one needs to own a battery charger to charge the battery up and then to test it with a Milton type testor giving it a load test to see if it truly is the battery. Being in the parts business almost 30 years I can't tell you how many times people brought in perfectly good batteries and purchased a new one because of (guessing) thinking it would cure their problem. I have also had the customer we were just talking about bring a brand new battery back thinking the new battery was no good but the car it was installed in caused the battery to go dead. Now I will guess it is possible that a brand new battery was bad but not probable. I would of thought that a place like Sears would of tested that new battery before it left the store. Most places like Sears only keep fresh new batteries on the shelf maybe no more then a couple of months before it is rotated with new stock.
Got it today - can't wait to get home after work & play !!!
Well 6pack the first thing you can do when you get home is start your car and flip your seat up. Open your battery compartment and clamp both cables of your Milton Testor in the correct way to your battery and instantly you will see if your car alternator is putting a charge back into your battery. Since you are not having any problems you should be in the green (OK) zone all the way to the right of your meter. There you will see exact reading as to how much is being put back into your battery. Enjoy your new (toy) tool. Believe me you are going to realize in the near future that it was one of the best investments you ever made in a tool for your car or cars.
What ever you do don't try a load test while the car is running. Shut the car off first!
