Hi Nick,
You shouldn't have to glue the carpet to the floor but you definitely have to put some insulation down first or the heat will kill you in the summertime.
Best,
Greg

I used 3M spray adhesive when I put new insulation in. With this stuff you want to spray the floor & bottom side of the insulation and then let it set up for a couple of minutes before you lay it down. I kept my old carpet....
There is insulation that will help keep the heat out.
And there is sound deadener that will keep the noise out.
I think Dynamat is to keep the sound level down, but I am not sure it will help with the heat.
And for gluing the carpet, I think most people will say it is ok to use the carpet adhesive, like the 3M products, but not a "glue" that would be a more permanent bond. It may be semantics but adhesive would be a better choice to install the carpet.
Hey Easy Mike Tell us how you really feel (just kidding you are a man of few words)The 3m glue is great make sure the part your glueing is where you want it that stuff is non forgiving. The guy at Be-Quite Said Glue it. Will the sides stay up under the carpet? I dont like the glue stuff smell?
Hey mike do you live near Lexington My Bro Lives there We use to go to A horse farm Called Darby Dan A horse Farm in Lex .My step father John Galbreath it was sure pretty Country.
do a search in the c5 section for sound deadener some of the guys including myself used something called refletix or thermo king insulation or someting similar. it will help kill sound and it also is a heat/cold insulator. works great and you use spray adheasive to hold it down.
I used Frost King Insulation in my C5. Worked really well, but was kind of a pain to install. I'm thinking of trying the Reflectix in my C3. Both of these products are cheap and you can get them at most hardware stores.
I maybe think about '' DYNAMAT ''(but expensive 280$)
Dynamat is still the best on the market in my opinion. I've tried others in projects and some don't make any noticable change in noise or heat penetration and I ended up redoing them. Dynamat is heavy and expensive, but it controls heat and sound better than anything else I've used, well worth it. The back of Dynamat is self adhesive but I don't remove the entire backing on floors because you will never be able to remove it once it adheres to the floor. I just remove the backing from the corners of the section I've cut instead of adhering the entire piece to the floor.
Dynamat keeps the sound level down and may limit some heat, but for heat rejection, Reflectix is the best "all-around" choice. First, it is inexpensive and easy to obtain [Home Depot sells 4' x 25' rolls for 30 bucks or so....enough to do 2 cars]. It's easy to work with and you can use corner bead spray adhesive and foil tape to hold it in place. You only need to glue the "vertical" areas of your carpeting....so it doesn't buckle or fall down (behind the seats, back of the storage area, firewall surface).
P.S. You shouldn't need to put Reflectix (or whatever) in the storage compartment area....just back to it. I live in Phoenix and don't feel any heat coming from there...and don't notice any problem after just doing the front cabin area.
