78 hard start when cold

May be a fuel delivery issue...or faulty ignition coil...change fuel filters and check fuel pressure with a gage...do test with cold engine..also,check that your choke is working properly...

I would check the choke first, then the rubber fuel lines if there is a small hole in any of them you may not notice the leak but the fuel line empties at night, Thats what happend to mine
