I bought mine with tires that size and while I thought about changing them, my friend who paints Vettes thought it looked nice with the beefy tires so I kept them that size.
that's cool. i'm sure it looks awesome. you're a fortunate one though. i know that other people have had issues. i have 6 bfg's waiting for me. two 245's and four 255's. the only think that kinda erks me is that if i end up being able to go with the 255's i'll have wish i ordered goodyear's. the only reason i DIDN'T was cuz goodyear doesn't make 245's - and i really don't think ANY car would look good with bfg's in the rear and gt II's in the front!

I agree with you 100 % with the above and for me, uniformity is key.
I'm sure my car didn't come from the factory with those sized tires and while I was as green as my car when I bought it (always wanted a stingray as a kid but wasn't much up on specs) I didn't know that the hood was from a big block and until I pulled into a gas station to fuel up and a guy offered me $600.00 for the hood
I went to my friend who owns half a dozen Vettes and all he does is them and he asked me if I wanted to keep the car original? and I said YES and while the #'s match engine and trans-wise the hood didn't so I ended up swapping him my hood for the one I have which is what came on the car when it was new.
I really should invite my friend Bill to join up as he's ALWAYS looking for cars to restore.
I run 275/60/15 on the rear with offset t/a ,and 255/60 /15 on the front. No rubbing front or rear. These tires ar mounted on stock 15/8 rally,s.The rears are getting worn a bit and I am going to try to find 2 15/10 rally's to mount the new tires on. Does anyone know what back spacing I need. I have enough room to go in about one inch before it gets tight. Thanks John
Well, we sure got some mileage out of this topic. !!
I guess they are starting to flow out rapidly now. Kauffman tire ordered 4 for me today, will have Monday. 130ea mounted and balanced.
It's funny how many different storys I got from various places on why they were out of stock. BF Goodrich told me they did not forcast correctly and fell way short of meeting demand.
I will check with them. I checked several mail order places, including Ecklers. They were 117 I think, they said the price went up. With having to ship and pay mount and balance, the price I got seemd OK. I have used them a long time and have shopped them to ensure low price. Maybe they think I should pay a higher price now that I have added the vette to the stable...HA
I just buzzed on tire rack to peek around. Does anybody even make a 265/60/15 anymore? None come up when you search it on there.
In a 245,255 and 275 you can get T/A's,Dunlop GT's,Firehawks and Eagle GT's. Only exception is no 255's in the firehawks and Eagles. Just in T/A's and Dunlops.
So do most of you think to just be safe go 245's all around or try for 255's and if the fronts don't clear then go down to the 245's? Just want to bounce it off you guys one more time before I actually order.
(69 car)
ED1655...were you able to run those 255's all the way around on your 71 or have you even tried yet?
Still cant decide on T/A's or the Dunlops...

Glad you jumped on. I was just going to head out for them. For giggles...I called Discount tite and they said that the book shows the stock tire being a 225/70/15 and that optional fits are a 235/60/15 and 255/60/15
So he is telling me the 255's should fit...but your did not hu?
Maybe I should just stick with the 245's up front to be safe...
i tell ya - it's really a crapshoot. there definately no way to know. that book they have probably says that becuase after '73 the wheel well were altered and there WERE optional 255's. but on our cars, no way. i know that my 245's juuuuuust fit. and that's the way most are. but there are a handfull of 68-72's that just happen to be able to squeeze the 255's into the front. ask them if you could order 4 255's and 2 245's and "return" the one's that don't fit. i wish i could give you a more definitive answer but there just isn't one!

Yeha they said if they don't fit and I did not wreck the tire I can swap them. My Vette guy just about came thru the phone when I told him I was going to put 245's on it. He said "DON'T DO IT...YOU WILL HIT IF YOU HIT A GOOD ENOUGH HOLE"
Now even 245's scare me. Maybe I'll just go with 235's now. I would die it I tore up a wheel well over a stupid 10mm difference in a tire.
You said your 245's juuuuust fit. I assume your talking up front right? Do you see them possibly hitting if your in a tight, hard, higher speed turn? You feel ok with them on there? What about the rears? Those clear fine with the 255's? hmmmm...now I'm a little nervous...
255s look like $hit on the front. Look like giant balloon tires. 245s would work all the way around but a tad too short for a stock height C3.
The best combo is 245s front and 255s rear...Ofcourse in BFG T/As, black walls out. They are MEANT to be on a C3.
I wouldn't run the Dunflops or Firechickens...no particular reason, I just like BFGs but if you do run those brands, please run black wall out.
Whats with the black wall out? We might have to do a poll here..lol
I did black wall out on my Tahoe and I kinda wish I had not. not a big deal on the truck...but the vette would look like crap IMO with no white letters.
OK...who know how to do a poll...I'm curious. My bet is white letters will far outweigh the black walls...
i agree too. sorry, every is entitled to their opinion and i don't think blackwalls look bad. but personally, i love the sporty look of white letters. i *feel* fine with the 245 front 255 rear. i know that many others have the same and have not reported any issues. that doesn't mean there won't be, though. yes, when i said juuuust fit i meant the front. i'm so pissed off at america's tire co..... just had my tires mounted and left passenger is leaking. MAN!!!!! and the closest one to me is like 45 minutes away. there goes my damn saturday.
they had those in gilroy bc i ordered them. when they didn't get them in on time (of course) i went to walnut creek, where they were in stock. glad a fellow c3 got to snag 'em.
