Hello Fellow Vetteheads,
I'am in the process of replacing the original radio with something I can actually listen to. I have seen the radio's with the bezel so as not to have to cut anything out and seems to be the way to go but, at a price tag of around 500 smackers. Is this the way to go ? has anyone gone this route and are you happy? or is there another way?
Buy an after market Bezel Store your orig. buy A stereo use the re-po bezel .hook the stereo up first to make sure it works .do you know about the bolts at the base of the bezel if not they will be a touch taxing not to bad but tuff.
My preference is to stick with the OEM set up. Perfectly fine for what I want (FM stereo).
What ever your choice, my advice is not to cut an original bezel. Buy an aftermarket repro and cut the repro. Put the original bezel away for resale time.

I heard about this after I mounted my new radio on the passenger side...
when you consider the fact that you are getting not only a center bezel but also a head unit in the package, it really doesnt seem like that bad of a deal. Everything is already made custom for that unit and you are talking about brand names (i.e. Pioneer and Kenwood).
console gauge bezels normally run close to 300 dollars, add to that the average cost of a high quality deck and they are a pretty good deal.
I got the cut out flat piece from a Vette place in Colorado - cost about $45. Then had someone cut the bezel in the center cluster for
$30. Then got a radio for about $100 at an auto store. Installed myself
took about 45 minutes. Had 4 pioneer 4 x 6 speakers previously installed. I like music but don't need the highest quality. Cost $175 &
sounds great.
Go to Willcox.com and click on the Forum Member Section. You can buy the bezel precut for the DIN openings for the "newer" style radios without have to cut it yourself.
