I imagine it's suppose to be. I just took mine apart yesterday for replacement and they were bulging a little bit like yours. That shouldn't be a problem, just sand it down a bit so as not to weaken it at all. I'm going to use 1/4 20 bolts and bigger washers to get a better grip.Good luck.

1/4 bolts wouldn't fit through the holes in my repop reinforcements. #10 machine screws are a good fit.
drilled mine for 1/4" .... and drilling with a right angle attachment
and reinforcement in-place makes for a nice tight fit.
As I recall my #4 reinforcement install, I had a slight bulge there, too.
I remember that the reinforcement fit fine without sanding it down.
I filled the space between the steel/glass with adhesive.
