Default plastic vent door

Has anybody ever had to replace that plastic vent door which is just behind the hood on the passengeers side? it lets fresh air into the AC system and is visable through a screen with the hood up.

mine is falling apart and i'm not having a lot of luck finding a replacement.

anybody know where i mite find one?

thanks,

Mike.

Some of these mount from the front side; some mount from the back. Depends on the year.

And, yes, the hinge section will wear in two. To my knowledge, the flapper door is not being reproduced.

I got one off eBay; well worn, but usable.

Thanks, i checked Ebay a couple of days ago but didn't see anything. guess i'll keep my eye out for one there.

I'm tempted to try to fabricate my own functional replacement for this door. it's not like anybody ever sees it anyway. paint it black and 4 out of 5 onlookers would probably never notice.

73 mounts towards the back, by the way.

thanks again,

Mike.

I've considered the same thing. Ought to be able to use the plastic original as a pattern/mold and lay up a fiberglass replacement. Shouldn't take much since there isn't a whole heckuva lot to these things.

fiberglass would be nice, but how would you fabricate the hinge using fiberglass.

the original plastic one has a weekened area that forms a hinge. i would think if you did this in fiberglass, it would just break.

McMaster Carr has sheets of ABS fairly cheap. i was leaning more towards plastic.

Maybe use a metal "piano" type flat hinge?

I think you can get those. Probably from McMaster Carr.

Go to a local pet fish store, they have a product there used for making the plastic hinges used on marine aquariums. They are exposed to long hours of very intense Uv and the like. Might be something to use for a hinge.
