Default headrest speakers?

A buddy just upgraded his Miata's headrest speakers, and they sound pretty sweet, even at freeway speeds.
I think some Caddy's now come with them.
Anybody put them in their C3?
Anything available aftermarket?
my '73 vert sure could use something like this.

Thanks,
John.

based on how good it sounds, I'm really surprised that it seems like only miatas & fieros have made this an option. You would think all vert. manufacturers would catch on, or at least the aftermarket guys would.
Please do let me know if you dig up any pics.

Also, leather covers would seem to muffle the sound alot, no?

Thanks,

I haven't done it to the Vette, but I had speaker seats in my 67 Austin Healey. I loved 'em

I'm the guy, or at least one of them. They do sound pretty good, but with the tops off and the sidepipes blasting, don't expect to get that opera house feeling.

Opera feeling...funny!
As it is now you have to really really know a song, and know all of the words to it in order to recognize what song might be playing (and then you are mostly imagining that you're hearing it). And I don't have sidepipes to add to the fun.

From your My Corvette Photos it looks like custom leather on the headrests with holes punched to allow the sound to penetrate. Did these come this way? Customized?
Any details?

Default Awesome seats!

Where did you get those awesome seats? Are they from a C5 or C6? I remember a thread not too long ago about someone putting C5 or 6 seats in their shark:-)

MARKBETT is using Fiero seats with a set of covers from Mr. Mikes I think. Mr mikes makes a full line of custom covers for Fiero seats in many colors. They will do custom logos as well. Interesting site and they also detail how to put speakers in the headrest of Fiero seat that did not come with them. Someone might adapt that info to other seats with good results. I also pidked up a set of Fiero seats and looked into what was out there for covers and decided to sew up my own covers using the original comfort weave type inserts. Have not started on the covers yet. ( I used to have an upholstery shop.)

Mark, I have finally found and bought a pair of 88 Fiero seats with the 5 point lumbar supports. I will have to relocate the pump from under the seat to the Corvettes consoles, you probly know they are the hardest Fiero seats to find as they only came out as a special option in 88 (I looked for well over 2 years), I plan on getting Mikes Corvette covers for them with Corvette emblems and the speaker holes installed, I with cut the seat head rests and install aftermarket speakers for these seats for speakers. My question is how did you bolt these to the Corvette? They measure 1"X 3" off the Corvette seat bolt pattern. Thanks Man. Dale

c69vete...sounds like a business opportunity here...custom sewing up seat covers for us folks!

I checked out mrmikes.com...looks like they have some really nice seat covers. Now I'm really tempted to go this route. Getting some details on the seat mounting would be nice.
I'm still amazed that more companies/cars are doing this for their verts.

The Pontiac Fiero seats are pretty nice and comfy. Years ago, I put a set in a Jeep CJ7 Rengade that I owned. The speakers are okay, but I messes up the front stage imaging you want from your audio.

Sorry guys, I didn't mean to blow you off, I didn't log on all weekend. Too much painting and house repairs to do. Now that I'm at work I have the time Looks like most of you answered the questions, but let me respond to some of the outstanding ones.

Installing the seats into the C3 - You'll have to use the corvette tracks from your old seat, and cut the mounting brackets off the tracks. You'll have to re-weld new mounting plates on the tracks so the holes line up. I took the seat and bolted them to a piece of plywood, then had a local weld shop put the new plates on and drill the holes accordingly. (make sure they give you slotted holes, makes it a lot easier.

I dropped the seat as low as I could because the Fiero seat sits a little higher that the corvettes seat does. so I used flat stainless and welded them to the tracks.

Mr. Mikes, has the whole package but he only has covers for the Fiero.

If someone wanted to, they could take the Corvette seat and do the same thing. You might have a bulge in the back of the head rests where the speakers are but that wouldn't be the end of the world. Just find a cover guy that will do custom work, and get the holes punched into the headrests. You can get the wiring diagram from Mr. Mikes.

You can PM me and I can give you more information.

Pontiac Fero had seats with the speakers in the head rest. Comfy, not bad looking, good support...I put them in a 67 ford truck i had. They can be had cheaply too, shouldnt be that hard to find, or adapt to your car.

I guess I'm a visual person, 'cuz this is a bit hard to picture without a picture.
I'll put some thought into this and see whether it seems doable and worth effort. I haven't seen many sets of fiero seat available.

What I have now is some ugly late 70's vinyl, so I might just hack up what I have with carving the foam for the speaker so to fit, and punch a pattern of holes for the sound to penetrate.
