Default My New Valve Covers Question?

I just installed a set of poly locks on my vette and realized that the stock valve cover would no longer fit, so I went to the race shop and grabbed a set of Moroso Aluminum Tall set, but once I got home and took them out of the box and wrapping I noticed that neither valve cover has any holes for the breathers or any other items....? It has a few different rubber inserts.

So i guess I have to cut holes in the valve cover myself?

First question: Any guidance on cutting the holes? Drill bits? Do I just find a drill bit the size of the rubber inser and start drilling?

Second questions: Do I need to have breather holes in both valve covers or is one fine? I happen to have two breathers, I have one line that comes off the bottom of the carb that runs to the valve cover... Not eaxactly sure what it does?

What a pain in the rear... If i would have know that I would have bought a much cheaper chrome set with the holes already in them, But I got this from a race shop going out off business and its 60% off but no refunds or returns....

I getting sick of working on this car and not driving it! I swear once this thing is running right and back together I'm done screwing with it!

Thanks.

Best option may be to sell those on this forum or e-bay and get another tall set with breather holes & baffles. Apprently you're not running a PCV valve? If you are or can, that should take care of the passenger side (shorter hose) and your only breather would be on the driver side. BTW, I'm about an hour drive North of you (in Spring).

Yes cut holes...start with a small drill bit. Do you have any hole saws? You can also open them up with a die grinder.

If it's a milder small block, you can do a PCV valve in one cover...probably that hose off carb....and a breather in the other one. If it's a serious bad boy..then use two breathers. But one will probably work fine for you. If they came with baffles to shield breathers..use them. Otherwise try to put breather where rocker oil doesn't squirt right into them..they will slobber everywhere.

BTW- who's going out of business? I might need to go shopping!

Are you going to the Forum Cruise in with us in a couple of weeks?

Got a crowd from Houston running up together with C-1's through C-6's!!

427 Hotrod,

Martell Brothers in Old Town Katy is going out of busniess.

Not much left... Nuts and Bolts...

I'm afraid I will not be able to make it to the cruise in... Pregnant wife and a 4 year old daughter to chase after, I'd proubalby better do my cruising close to home!

Plus the 410 gears in the rearend kind of take the fun out of driving down the highway.... The car would melt before I got to Austin....
