The car is almost done, and time to start mounting the emblem badges. The front emblem is bent a slight bit. The problem is that the contour of the bend is not enough to properly be seated on the front. I am afraid that if I try and bend it more it will snap because it is only connected at the crossed flags. Has anyone had this problem? Thanks
I'm not familiar with the '77 front emblem... Is it plastic or "pot" metal? If it's pot metal, don't try bending it....that material is very brittle. It fractures at the first pressure above it's material strength level. A plastic one should form to shape to the surface when you pull it down.

Heat does wonders for bending pot metal. I've rescued several vintage truck hood ornaments that way. Toss 'em in the oven at 200*-300*F, then carefully bend to shape.

When I redid my '77, I just got all new emblems.
Couldn't think of a nice shiny paint job with weathered emblems .
Good luck with fixing yours
Gee, I don't know why I didn't think of that. Just send me the $47.00 and I'll just do that. The whole purpose of posting this thead is to alleviate buying a new one.
Thanks Batman, Ill give the heat a try.
Take it slow. Too much pressure too fast and the pot metal will probably shatter. I've never done this with Corvette flags (just super-rare GMC hood ornaments - what a way to practice ), so I can't predict how they'll react.
One other thing - buy a pair of welding gloves, if you don't have any. Hot metal is a great way to burn yourself, and oven mitts probably won't do the trick.
These are ALL NEW EMBLEMS. I am NOT using the old ones. This is a new emblem that I am trying to fit on the hood. Sorry for the confussion, I didnt think that anyone would think that someone would use the old emblems after restoring the car.
Why not? If the chrome isn't pitted, all they need is new paint. If you re-do the paint with the right "system", the emblems look better than the aftermarket "new" ones.

Then call the vendor and ask for an exchange.
It clearly doesn't fit properly a guy in C4 sent his door panels back for the same reason. I got the interior kit and all emblems from mid-america the only trouble I had was my car built in Oct. '76 and had a '76 int color which is a firethorn red and they shipped for a late '77 called the an ups picked up the wrong and m/a sent me the right one.
Moral call the vendor tell them it doesn't fit properly and you want to exchange it.
