What is the roginal engine for this car and anything else you can tell me about it would be great.
"1" indicates Chevrolet Motor Division; "9" indicates Corvette model; "4" indicates V-8 engine; "67" or "37" indicates convertible or coupe respectively. The sixth digit indicates the last digit of the model year; "S" indicates St. Louis assembly; followed by a six-digit build sequence number.

OK we know its a 69 ragtop but want to know what engine is in it. What options it came with etc.
It wasnt until 1972 that the vin# told you what motor the car was born with. Other then casting #'s or the tank sticker (if legible) or documentation you are at the whim of whoever is selling it. Peace,,,Moosie
I don't mean to take this in a different direction, but it seems to my that many owners would like to know the history of there car, including me. Seems that info would be on record at a National DMV. and available for reseach...
this wouldn't tell anything that happen'd to it but it would say where its been...

VIN alone won't tell you what you want. You will need original documentation with the car or the tank sticker in order to determine how it was equipped when it left the factory.
Check the stampings on the block pad at the front of the right head. Engine code and VIN derivative will be stamped there.
