Mine had the coating all over but not shinny so I used really old rubbing compound with spit and 2hrs per wheel ,they look new, I used mothers to finish shine .Not the power ball. Just alot off muscle took three nights cause our(Me and Girlfriend) hands were hamburger. but well worth it in the end.She also helped with the radiator and her help was Much needed.
Do I need to strip a clear coat off my original 78 SA rims before I polish them. What compound is best for these rims. Thanks
That was a clear lacquer if original. I carefully used lacquer stripper, brushing it on and removing with rags. It took awhile but eventually got it all. than do your polish as suggested by others. Oh, take the wheels off and do your work well removed from the vehicle.
I would like to do mine also. Where do you buy that Autosol? and how is it applied. I tried the other methods on one of the wheels and its a lot of work to get that laquer coating off.
I believe '78's didn't come with C/C. I think that started with the 80's... I used Mothers & the Mothers Ball to clean mine...
Mine did..bought it 28 years ago...removed clear coat using 400 grit wet/dry...then polished....turned out great...some follow up with 1000 grit before polishing...
