I have a 1978 Corvette Stingray. My high beam switch does not work. Can someone tell me how to repair/troubleshoot this switch. Is it part of the directional switch assembly. Is there an easy way to service this switch. I really hope I don’t have to remove this switch assembly.
When I pull the directional switch towards me there is no click.
Thanks.

The actual switch is mounted on the steering column, inbetween your knees when you are in the drivers seat.
When you move the directional lever back(as if to activate the high beams) do you hear a click?
The headlight dimmer switch is mounted on the driver side of the steering column down under the dash. There is a metal rod that extends down from the "head" of the steering column and plugs into the switch. When you pull back on the turn signal lever, does the rod push on the switch? If the rod does not move, the problem is in the plastic dimmer pivot up in the column head. If the rod moves and the switch does not click, the switch is probably bad or needs adjustment.
You didn't mention if you had a standard (non-adjustable) steering column or a T&T. The dimmer switch is the same for both. But the mechanism in the head is slightly different.
There are complete instructions on replacing and adjusting the dimmer switch as well as the more extensive repair procedure on the pivot itself. Go to www.corvettefaq.com
