We bought and restored our #matching LT-1 (air) to drive. Since last June, we have some how managed to clock up nearly 8K. and I'm sure, this summer will be more more of the same Their made to drive! Have fun! Muddy
Keep it if you can. The value will appreciate more that a CD or at least on par with the stock market. Someday you may want another stock chromie, and if you sold it, it will no boubt cost alot more to replace it. If you can swing it, drive it occasionally and build a 'Vette you can drive everyday. Who says you can only have one 'Vette? (Don't say "My Wife")
If your car is a numbers matching, legitimate '72 LT-1 with A/C and it has the potential for Top Flight status... you should do what it takes to make it a show winner and take it to Barrett-Jackson next January. GM only made 240 LT-1 C3's with A/C..and only in 1972. If you sell the car and the new owner fixes it up and sells it for big money, you'll be really fried. It all depends on how much work your car needs to make it Top Flight material.

I disagree Muddy. I think you're a perfect example. You should sell your car right now.... To me
Seriously, I think that this car, like any other investment has potential for appreciation and risk. The higher the potential return, the higher the risk. If you have other investments, don't need the money now and can afford to lose the value of the car now, it does have the potential for higher returns than most investments. I can also tank overnight. What's it worth if gas prices go to $9 a gallon. What if there's a recession? What (heaven forbid) if it gets stolen or damaged seriously?
If you can afford and are willing to take the risk, it isn't a bad option to let it continue to appreciate. If any of the above risk factors make you queasy, sell it now while the selling is good. Take some of the proceeds, buy a highly non-original C3 with a rattle can paint job and drive it like you stole it.
Thanks for all the input guys. Pete, thanks for posting the pic...
I think what I'll do is bump up my insurance and try to drive it some more so I can enjoy it. Right now, I can't spend any money on it because the wife it taking some time off to spend with the kids. If it wasn't for that, I would have done what I needed to get it in the NCRS Nationals this year down the road in MA and go for a Top Flight...but due to the above circumstances, I had to put that on hold.
I may revisit the "Should I sell" situation in another year or two, but for now I'll get my butt in it and drive!
Tony,
I think you should enter it in an NCRS judging event, just for the sole purpose of finding out what needs to be done on your car to make it a "winner". That is the least costly [and best] way to get that quality of information. Then you can make a "tick list" of things to do and estimate costs to complete them. From that you will have a good idea of the cost benefit to fix it up right to get top dollar vs. selling it "as is" without that expense. Do what ends up giving you the best benefit. In the meantime, enjoy the car...it looks like a "winner" on the Forum. If you decide to sell it as is, please post it on the Forum so we have a chance at it, too.
Tony,
Keep it and run it. You could sell it and buy a driver....but then you'll never be happy looking at something that is in lesser condition than your present Vette.
