Default Pulling out with a BB

How the #^%& do you get these things going on street tires without just roasting the heck out of it?? I have a 73 with a "built" 454 and a Tremec TKO 500.
It will spin all the way through 1st unless you ease the throttle or slip the clutch a great deal. (which I ain't gonna do much) Then if you try to get back in it, it starts breaking loose again. After the first 30-40 feet of second you can actually open up the throttle 2/3 to WOT.
My first trip to the track resulted in 60' times all over 2.5 seconds.
My opinion right now is to just drive it and enjoy the "extra" torque. I didn't build it to race, I built it to cruise. (and pizz of Rustangs of course )
Any of you experienced drivers got an answer?

Get an M-22 with 3.36 rear. gotta punch her 4,000 before the tires break loose even a little.

I sure do like cruising at 1700 RPM with the TKO and my 3.08. Wouldn't trade that for a hole shot.

Drag slicks aside, precision throttle modulation becomes a required skill with healthy power to weight ratio's, street or track. Bigger/stickier tires will help to a point, but you'll just have to accept that the gas pedal isn't always an on/off switch. Look at it as an opportunity to become a more talented driver. Best of luck!

Now you know why I re-configured my 540 to move powerband much higher. I intentionally killed low end TQ to make it more driveable under power. The first version was like a switch...on or off......

I love that too, I wouldn't trade my 3.08's either. Get some stickier tires, I am getting 285/40/18 Toyo T1R's for the back of mine.
Will still easily break them loose but they should be much better that the TA's on there right now

A bigger cam will kill a little bottom end torque, making it more docile. I have Dunlop Qualifiers, 295's and they are useless above 3,500.

You're gonna have to brace your foot on the tranny tunnel and develop a light touch. After a while you should be able to stay on the edge of traction.
OR are you just braggin'?

I really think you are right, it is going to take a lot of doing to make it go.

drag racers know that the C-3's rear wheels need to be further back from the **** pit to apply serious hp to the ground.

However, stickier tires uhh, like ET streets or better, and change the spring to transfer the weight. Been there done that on several cars, simple changes will plant 700+ hp on the street and low 10's in the 1/4

I'm running a 12 pound flywheel and it's still easy to break the tires loose- anytime. Get it rolling and jump on it, tires come loose. Jump on it at 40, same result. I suppose it may be the 4:11's. Either way it;s still a blast to drive.

2th farmer You must have one wicked ride!!! LOL

I have a 388 stroker in my 73 and just had headman headers #38830 2.5 inch exahust with Magnaflow mufflers just installed. The carb re-adjusted and now under full throttle from a standstill it rips the tires right off. No stall converter. (Stock stall) and I beleive 3.08 gears. On the Highway it's a missle. Way too much..

It won't break the tires at half throttle though. I need to hammer down as I have the Old. 780/800 Holley vacum secondary carb on it.

But with a 454 BB and a Tremec TKO OMG!!!

I would like to go with a M22 and 2.52 first gear. I believe Autogear has one that will work well with 3.08 gears.

I have Goodyear 255 Tires out back and 245's in front.

How about those semi/slick tires from Hoosier?

Sticky tires break parts! Choose carfully, those half shafts are small.

If you plan on beefing up some of the rear end then go with some drag radials. I've been running 275/60/15 Nitto 555R's for almost 2 years now on the street and like them. They won't last anywhere near as long as regular street radials and they are slippery in rain but are much stickier on the street and strip than radials. I just finished putting in a 600+hp BB and although I've only driven it around the block a few times so far the tires hold it down really well. Other option is a bigger cam to kill a little bottom end.
