Does anyone know where I can purchase a nice Leather Steering wheel cover for my 73' Coupe? I am looking for the type that is sewed inside of the wheel. I would think this Leather cover would fit any C-3 wheel from 68'-75'. Anyone have any experience with doing this?
Try http://www.wheelskins.com. They have many sizes and colors. If they do not have your particular year, you can measure and they will make.
I have the '76 "vega" wheel which I did not like until I repainted and wrapped. Much better now!!!
Here is a pic; sorry the quality is not better but it should give you an idea. Is this what you're looking for? If the pic does not show, just look at "My Corvette Photos."
Okay, I don't know how to link picture to the forum . . .

I had Chuck Pelton put on a leather cover on my stock 72 wheel. He did a beautiful job and the wheel feels 100% better. It is sewn on the inside like you want. Chuck is here on the forum and has done many wheels and might even just swap yours out. He came highly recomended and I would say his work is top notch.
Thats the cover I am looking for but I need one to fit a 73' Corvette wheel or really a 68'-75' wheel with 3 spokes. I have been to the wheel skin website but didn't see anything for a C-3 through 75'.

Gordonm, You might be the forum member I spoke to before about this. If so you posted a picture some months back of your wheel. Can you post it again if you are the same person I spoke with? I think others might want to see what I am talking about as far as how the leather cover looks on a 3 spoke C-3 wheel.
I am looking to do this job myself. I am pretty sure I can handle it if I can get my hands on the right leather cover.

This is the Bell (yes, the helmet people) leather steering wheel cover I just put on my '71. Under $30, and it fits and feels great. They also make one without the perforations, and also make one in black Ostrich. Two other C3 buddies also bought them and really like 'em.

The wheelskins cover is more of the type of Leather Cover that I am looking for although they have no listing for my 73' Vette. I decided to email them to see what they have to say. I am waiting on a reply.
By the way your interior looks great and the Wheelskins Leather cover is a perfect addition to it. Did you stitch it up yourself? If so how bad of a job was it. Just curious.

I can't remember if it was me or not but I'll get a good picture of it today and post it here. I was driving this weekend and it was a nice change from the thin sticky stock wheel.

Sorry, they're stretch-ons. Believe me, I had to really pull to get it on, as you can see by the nice fit. Very good quality. I was kind of shocked how good. It took 3 tries (on/off) to get it on so the stiching was where I wanted it. No slipping whatsoever.
I really like that thicker feel to the wheel, more like my '88.
Guess this isn't for you, but maybe some of the other guys will try 'em. No more sticky, stain your light colored pants steering wheel.
Here is a front and rear view of the wheel Chuck Pelton did for me.
This is the cover I am looking for. Your C-3 wheel looks great. I wonder what brand of Leather Cover Chuck is using here. I think I could handle the job. Afterall I do most of my own work on my cars and would hate to have to send my wheel out this time of year. Shouldn't be any worse then recovering the seats in my 73' Coupe. Does Chuck have a website showing what he sells and prices? What did it cost you to have your wheel covered or did you buy the wheel already covered?

Very nice Toy. I kept looking at this pic, and couldn't put my finger on what looked strange. Not strange bad, just something wasn't what I was used to seeing.
I looked at it another 4 times over the next day, and finally realized what it was. Then I read your profile, and it all made sense.

Thanks!
Wheelskins can custom make the steering wheel cover if you give them the outside diameter and the grip circumference at the widest point. They give you instructions on how to stitch it.
"5. How are Wheelskins Steering Wheel Covers installed?
Each cover comes complete with a nylon lacing cord, a needle, and illustrated detailed installation instructions. The holes are pre-punched with a patented lacing hole reinforcement to prevent tearing during installation. The time required is approximately 60 minutes."

I am still waiting for a reply email back from Wheelskins. I tried their 800 number but a recording comes on telling you to email them. It would be nice if they would answer my email don't you think?
