Default Steering/Spindle attachment question (pics)

One side has two positions for the tie rod, the other looks like its been plugged. My friend's '79 only has one position--the quicker (shorter) one. Has anyone seen this plug(?) before? What would be the point of plugging it?

One is for manual steering, the other is for power. I don't remember which is which off the top of my head.

Yup ... asked this question on CF myself one day ... many years ago.

unplugged is for PS ... plugged hole for MS (more leverage but slower travel).

Just guessing that the plug was to prevent uneducated line workers and backyard mechanics
from using the wrong hole.

So in the past I heard the front hole was for quicker steering - and I guess it will - But with Manula steering, you might need a bit of muscle to turn the steering wheel.

So a more accurate statement would be you get quicker steering using the front hole (less travel distance), but if you use it for a manual setup, it is not the standard and is hgarder to turn.
