Default Front Spoiler--------How Important?

got the vette back from the body shop, and the hooked up my front spoiler.......with 1 bolt, needless to say, i drove arround town, then home b4 i noticed it, well i can make it "work", but how necissary is it?! does it "scoop" up air to hit the radiator,or just for looks, bc i kinda like it w/o it

You need it for correct cooling.

Larger spoilers were added to later years, so using a later vintage C3 spoiler should be OK, I would think. You do need some kind of spoiler to direct enough airflow into the radiator. It also helped reduce an undesirable tendency to lift under high speed operation (not a good thing.)

Do you mind if I ask who is doing your body work? Im almost done with my body work on my 74 but I dont have time to mess with it for a while. If you like the Indy spoiler go with that, mine doesnt have one and we can't have 2 74s in the same town that look alike. Just kidding.

The Indy ft. spoiler designed for our Vettes w/ wind tunnel scoops up air for cooling, cleans up airflow underneath & sweeps the airflow around the front tires.
Rec. for all performance 68-79 ! I put factory 3 piece on as soon as possible, so early that the paint matches & it appears original.

Front spoilers do work...I extended mine 2 1/2"...

Then later...added this "scoop" to get more air to rad at higher hwy speeds...made it from a Rubbermaid dust pan..

The "air scoop" was good for about 4-5 degree drop in coolant temps at 75 mph +...

"Steves frame and body" theye are GREAT just make sure u get a quote on when they will be done, pricing is really pretty fair compared to other spots in town, we'll hav to meet up sometime so see the vettes, not too many people in Joplin

This should make it clear.

The Indy ft. spoiler was designed for our Vettes w/ a wind tunnel.

I bought and added the standard spoiler from Eckler's in Florida and was told "the Vet was designed this way for cooling purposes" and have noticed a change in my temps, so it works for me out here in California!!!

rihwoods,

Where did you get the rubbermaid dust pan? Would you have a PN for it? I might do this on mine.
