I've read a few posts and looked on Ebay for Dynamat and it's clones. Which is the correct one to buy for heat and noise? It seemed like all were for sound control.
Hello, I used Rattletrap made by Fatmat. Rattletrap is the thicker version....70mils thick. I bought the 100 SF (actually two 50 SF rolls) I was able to double it in several places in the back and floor.
Even put it on the upper rear deck....put it everywhere including the trans hump. Doubled in the floor pan.
After that, I put that foil stuff down also....and then the carpet. The new carpet went in fine. I think it drastically reduced the road noice from the rear fender wells and all over.
I even took the door panels off and put on there.
If you are reworking your interior...I recommend it.
You will probabaly get a lot of posts with different products. You can also search the archive and get a lot of opinions.
I used Dynamat Extreme (3 bulk packs) for sound and Dynapad for heat...the best thing I've ever done to improve the comfort of my ride.
You did a really nice job
I'm interested mainly in reducing heat, as the noise is something I actually like. Can you tell me where you bought it and how much you paid for the Dynapad? I'm going to be doing that real soon. Thanks - Mark

I would hope you like the engine and exhaust sounds....can't imagine you liking the road noise from a fender well. Oh well....to each his own.
The least expensive [and still very effective] heat insulation is Reflectix. It comes in 4 ft. x 25 ft. rolls for around $30 at Home Depot. It has foil on both sides and is about 5/16" think. I used a bit of spray adhesive to hold it in place (not a lot) and foil tape to seal the joints. Its easy to work with [scissors] and does a great job at heat rejection. You shouldn't need to do the storage compartment area, if heat is your problem.

The best bargain I found (after a lot of internet shopping/research) for both Dynamat extreme and Dynapad was from www.hifisoundconnection.com
I think I paid $85 for each , 32" x 54" sheet of Dynapad. 12 sq. ft. total 3/8" thick. I used 3 all together (even put it under my battery and rear storage compartment). Don't worry, even with the dynamat and pad you'll still here the rumble of the engine, but at a more enjoyable db level. I spent a lot of money on stereo and wanted to enjoy that too.
Nice install job. How did you get the Dynamat to conform to the curves so well?
I worked with small manageable strips and used a wood roller to smash the crap out of it. Dynamat is very sticky and it feels thicker than it is. I think I lost a few pounds wrestling with it. You have to have that roller to be sure to get all the air pockets from underneath. Glad its done, don't won't to do it again (unless of course I find that 71-72 coupe I hope to have some day).

Go to C5 general and see what they think of it.....
Jim - care to elaborate on that? I went over there (yuk) and couldn't find any talk of it? Did a search, too.
I'm open to opinions on all of this, but need more info first
In C5 general its the next best thing to sliced bread!!!! I did my '03 from the the back of the front seats to the tailights. It works well and as noted earlier its very easy to work with.
