No disrespect, but why not purchase the 75 assembly instruction manual and find out what it does. The AIM has a diagram of the assembly and the original part numbers.

Very true, but we are here to help our less fortunate( Unlearned ) brethren and let them know WTF a part does so they then can go beyond what we have taught them That cable locks the trans in park untill you insert the key and unlock it, " Is knowledge learned by asking any less knowledge then by finding out yo' dam self" buy a book and learn when the summer repeats wear you down. Peace,,,Moosie

thanks for your great reply it really helped answer my simple question. it's this kind of responce and attitude that is killing this forum. i do have a manual that has covered most everything i have done on the car but it only has a pic of the assy. and does not explain the function, so i thought i would ask here as this forum is sometimes a great place to get simple answers. sometimes you just have to wade through all the to get them though.
200FRCF that is the column interlock cable and its function is to
lock the key into the ignition until Trans is placed in Park.
Dual function of the interlock is to lock the steering wheel so it cant be turned unless key is in the on position.
Sounds like your cable needs to be adjusted or its disconnected somewhere.
If the wheel can be turned without key in ignition it sounds like the wheel lock pin (in the column ) is missing. The lock pin is driven directly by the ignition lock cylinder.
If you can take a look in the service manual and It'll show all that stuff in the column

I've read all my AIMs.
Nowhere that I have seen ... does the AIM describe the operation of the steering interlock cable.
