I was running 245-15 fronts and 255-15 rears on stock rims on my '72and never had any trouble. I bought a set of Torque Thrust (Chrome..is that D or TTII?) from my local corvette restorer after finding out that Crager no longer offered a direct fit. Now my front tires rub (just a tiny bit) at wheel lock. The hit the corner by the front of the rocker panel. Is a spacer going to help me...or do I need to buy 235's for the front? I dug through the archives and saw a lot on wheel vs caliper fit, but not tires...
All wisdom appreciated!!
I'm running P245/60/15 on the front of my '72 on stock COrvette wheels. Mine don't make contact. Perhaps your wheels don't have the same offset as the factory wheels?
So what do i do? can't throw away the wheels? does a spacer do what the offset should have done?
Your new rims obviously have a different offset or backspacing than your old rims. Measure backspacing on your old and new rims
I'd try an alignment - you're saying they slightly rub the rocker panel... a little more positive caster might solve the problem, that moves the wheel a little bit foreward in the fender opening....
ordered 235 - 60's for the front today. thanks for all the help. found a forum member that had the same issue with same wheels and had to go to 235's to fix it.
thanks to everyone for their help!
