I just started my 1970 and the windshield wiper door opened by itself. I pushed the wiper button on the dash and the wipers will not turn on. The headlights open and close fine. Do you think it is the fuse? I hope...
Is the wiper door override "switch" pulled down (one of the plungers under the dash)? Try turning the wiper override **** under the dash too.
My wiper door used to do strange things like open and close on startup. Then it started to open and stay open. I found the plunger switch on the right wiper arm was bad and leaking really bad. The switch keeps the wiper door open until the wiper arms are parked.
You probably have a vacuum leak somewhere. The other possibility is the vacuum solenoid switch in the wiper door system could be plugged up or defective. The solenoid/switch is located on the back side of the tachometer (yes, you heard correctly). Check to see that you do not have a vacuum problem with the whole system before you check out the solenoid/switch. If you read over 15+ in. Hg. vacuum (gauge Teed into the vacuum feed line from the intake manifold) with the engine running and your wiper door open, it is likely the solenoid switch. If you are low on vacuum, fix that first; fixing that leak may also fix your wiper door problem.
