Default steering column rebuild ?

I have a tilt / tele column in my 72' but everytime I'm at the drag strip and I launch hard or brake hard the steering wheel goes forward and back. Can the tele parts be rebuilt so that it will lock tighter I'm sure it is just worn out after 30 some odd years of use.

Does flaming river or ididit have a bolt in non-tele replacement column? I might be able to sell my original column and buy one of theirs if they do.

Just pull a swap with another Forum member. I am sure that there are many of them that would just love to swap their standard (non-adjustable) column for your T&T. It would be a very easy exchange.

If you were real lucky you could even swap with someone that had the same color column.

BTW, the telescope lock most likely just needs to be adjusted. Disconnect your battery. Use a small screwdriver to reach under the horn cap #1 and pop it off. Remove the three screws #2 that hold the horn contact #3 in place. Remove the shims #4. Remove the two screws #5 that hold the lock **** #7 to the star screw #6. Use a phillips screwdriver to tighten the star screw. Check to make sure that the telescope feature is now securely locked. Now replace the lock **** and tighten secure it in place with the two screws. (The lever on the lock **** should be at roughly the one o'clock position.)

Before you replace the shims, horn contact, and horn button make several lock and unlock rotations of the lock ****. Readjust if necessary.

Now align the horn contact, the shims, and the spacer #8 and insert the three screws. Make sure that the "leg" on the horn contact is oriented so that it sits on the horn contact plunger that is sticking up through the hub #11. Tighten the three screws. Snap the horn cap in place. Reconnect your battery.

Yes, but they don't have one with the ignition switch in the column.

You "might" be able to sell your original column? If it's in good shape, it's worth between $700 - $1000. Check out the recent eBay auctions for 69-75 TT steering columns - it'll make your head spin! My local Corvette parts store said that they recently had someone walk in and offer them $1000 for every C3 TT column they had (they had none).
