Default 68 427 Auto Coupe???

Did they make it? There is a 68 here for sale, and has what looks like the original hood, a 427 hood, but has an auto trans. Could that be correct? I couldn't get a hold of the owner.

Absolutely...the 427/390 and 427/400 were available with automatic. The L88 was a 4-speed only option but there were a small number built with an automatic. The 427/435 was also supposed to be a 4-speed only option but I wouldn't be surprised if a couple with automatics slipped out of the factory.

Just point mash and hold on--Yahooo
I had a 68 Camaro with a 427-390 (from a vette)and an auto and my girlfriend was always borrowing it.She would come back with a smile on her face and white knuckles. Each time with a little less tread on my TA-50s

I also have a 68 LeMans Blue Coupe with a 427/390 Turbo 400. Fun car to drive. When those four barrells open up it's a different animal

427 and TH400, yes. You could order an L-88 with auto.

The original poster is talking about 1968. In big blocks, only L36 & L68 optioned cars could have a TH400 transmission. L71/89 & L88 both mandated 4spds until 1969 when special TH400 trans was made an option on these.

I've got an original '71 LS6 auto in the shop today. A real rocket with the factory high-stall converter/TH400.

So if its in to repair the seat slide you still have to ROADTEST to make sure it will hold-Right?

...I don't think in '68 you could get the automatic and an L-88. Not til '69. And I think even then, out of 116 1969 L-88s, only 17 were automatics.

The THM 400 was new in 1968 and I doubt if engineering had done enough testing with the big motors to feel comfortable in mating them up (potential reliability issue). With a year under their belts and the THM400 holding up to anything they threw at it, it was on the option list in '69.

...you could though, as other posters have stated, get a 390hp or 400hp 427 in '68 with an automatic. Seen plenty of 'em, judged plenty of 'em.

So are BB auto cars worth less or more than BB with sticks? This car is in okay shape, body is kinda rough, interior kinda rough, white, looks original though. Owner is asking 14,500. Too high? I know its hard to say untill i have pics.
