Thinking about it, if I had 15k to spend on a C3 and another 15K to spend on mods......

You could buy a really nice C3 for that 15k and a good used C5 (1997-2000) for the other 15k

Best of both worlds Now which one should I drive today?

Here's my plan for the widebody. (bought at Carlisle last year)
VBP trans leaf front/rear springs, upper/lower A arms, and brakes. (hope to buy at Carlisle THIS year)
Hydroboost.
Steeroids. Check
Guldstrand 5 link rear susp. Check
Van Steel carbon fiber driveshaft, halfshafts. Check
6 spd. (If I can save enough $$$ for Carlisle)
383 stroker w/cross ram webers or efi (I might wimp out on this due to expence). Have block/heads
MSD Ignition. Check
Stainless works shorty headers and sidepipes. Check
Kinda liking the new custom interior pkg offered from MAD
'82 seats (have frames)
Good sound system (not to win any contests, just be heard over the exhaust).
A/C.
Moonroofs. Check
Western Hurricane mags. Check (although I'd like to find 2 10" to replace 2 of my 8's)
Planning on 2455015's up front an 2955015's out back. (BFG or Hoosier's)
Guessing 30-35k before I'm done, hope to begin assembly in the fall.
Bought the body/title for 1k and a bare frame (epoxy painted) for another grand. Should be worth 12 or 13 when I'm done in 3 years...LOL (only partly kidding here). But I'm going to have fun pizzing off the purests and gold chain set cause this one is going to be a runner! /:\
Same Idea I had

1971 Can-Am, 502 Ramjet, hookers, 14 pt roll cage, gusseted frame, ROD 6 speed, 3.08 rear, dual friction clutch, Lakewood, Wilwood brakes, VB&P sport hub/rotors Hydraboost, Steeroids, Tubular A-arms, VanSteel HD offset Trailing arms w/Johnny Joints, custom 6 link, 3" telescoping halfshafts, modified dragvette drive & halfshaft saftey loops, 16 gallon fuel cell, basset wheels front 15x8x3 with nitto 555r 275/50VR15's and rear 15x11x4 with nitto 555r 325/50VR15's, Ultrashield seats, Stewart-Warner clocks, 16" spal fan, Radius Tooth Belts W/billet pulleys....

Default Some interesting points

Very good discussion! If you want to build a "pro-touring" type Corvette in the 35-40K range the C5 Z06s can't help but enter into the picture. I also would like a rest-mod C3 and am willing to spend into the mid to high 30K range to do it. When that much $$$$ comes into the project you can get a real nice 01 or 02 Z06 with mods (if you want) and have money left over for a killer wheel and tire package with mini tubs if that's your thing. The downside to that is the cars are common (if that's possible with a Corvette) and they are still depreciating. They are also complicated to fix if you don't have access to scan equipment and or a friendly mechanic. The cost for Vet Brakes suspension, rack and pinion steering, a 400+ H/P motor, 5 speed, radiator/fan package, A/C, as well as any other maintance the car needs adds up quick. The most cost effective thing maybe a NOM C3 that other wise is in good shape and build from there.

you can always save a ton of money by buying someones project that they have given up on like mine for instance. i have spent over $30k on mine to date just in new parts with a VB&P performance plus suspension and new interior. here is a link to my ad on here. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1567812

Hi, everybody--thanks for your replies! I've been reading them with interest.

A buddy's father has a 1977 Vette he wants to sell for $8k. It's a mostly-finished project (rebuilt motor, brakes) but it's driveable (the interior looks good from the photos I saw). I'm going to check it out this Thursday. I had my heart set on a 1973 model, but this '77 sure looks nice! And at that price, if it's in good shape, no rust and all that, why not?

Well your alot further along than I am LOL. The Steeroids just arrived yesterday. I also just bought a set of AR Vectors (8") No if I can just find a pair of 10's in either Western Hurricanes or Vectors the wheels will be done.

I've been looking for a rear spoiler like your's, any ideas?
