Default Does someone want me DEAD?!

i was under the car canging the oil and i saw 2 things, one got me scard, if its what i think it is, ive been trying to get the pics i took if it up but alas i hav dial up, so i guess ill try to describe it, the first is that black metal cover (i hope) RIGHT behind where you oil drain plug, it has a few holes in it, im hoping its a cover, because i cant help but think if its not going to hold fluid too well if its supposed to,

the second one has me scard, right next to the oil drain plug on the drivers side is either a cable or a wire, it kinda looks like my E brake cable and its cut, did i do something wrong to the wrong people? the "cable" runs through a cover if any one knows what it is try to post a pic bc i cant,

just wondering if anyone knew

Miles

The cable is the reverse lock out for the steering column. The cover is just to keep junk out no problem.

The cover behind the oil pan is the flex plate cover. It keeps all the dirt and crud off of your flex plate and torque convertor. The little hole in the bottom is supposed to be there. I am wondering if the cable you are talking about might be the speedometer cable. Does your speedometer work? Does your car have cruise control?

The cable cut off may have been for the reverse lock out. It went from the bottom of the steering column to the transmission.

That sheet metal cover on the bell housing keeps out dirt and stones.

The cable is there so you have to put the car in rev to get the key out and it locks the shifter in rev, for manual cars only.

If memory serves me correctly....the cable connects on a bracket on the steering shaft (right next to the firewall) and the other end should be connected to the reverse bracket on the tanny.

Nope, autos have them too to lock it in park with the key off. I need to go unhook my uncle's '72, he hasn't been able to get his key out for about a year now.

The adjustment is made by loosening the bolts on the bracket that holds the cable at the bottom of the steering column and moving the bracket till the key will come out. If the cable is good its an easy fix. The bolt heads are under the dash inside with the bracket under the hood. The lock cable was on both transmissions.

Nothing to worry about if you like having your car roll off...

He is thinking of a rev lock out on an aftermarket auto shifter where you have to lift a lever to get it into rev, ours does not perform that function, ours locks the shifter in Rev for manual or P for auto's.

I was wrong on the manual only.
