A friend of mine put his '71 LS6 Corvette in the EXCELL Classic Auction Event on Sunday June 10th and it went for $235,000. So I figured I better quit driving on my original 36 year old Goodyear Wide Tread F 70 15 tires.
I ordered yesterday 10 Goodyear Eagle GT II tires for both LS6's. Went with 225 70 x 15 size, had to loosen the spare tire carrier bolts to lengthen them, but got the spare to fit pretty snug in there. Absolutely a delight to drive on, phenomenal difference. Took the white coupe and hit 135 mph before the end of the on ramp, just as smooth as glass. Looking forward to test driving the orange coupe, it has 3:36 ratio, should be able to damn near peg the speedo. Tires look pretty right on the cars, gotta have the solid white lettering on these vintage rides, they just don't look right without it.

I chose eagle GTII's for the first set of tires on my 75
except I used 235/60/15 on 7.5 fentons. they do ride sweet
it's my first vette and it already feels familiar.
I've never had any other Goodyears prior to the originals. In the past I used Dunlop GT Qualifier and B.F Goodrich Radial T/A in sizes 245 60 x 15 and 265 50 x 15 all the way around, but never carried a spare, now with the values hitting the stratosphere I wouldn't want to just leave the car unattended should I have tire troubles.
Good for you! I also have Eagle GT II's (225/70-15) on the 70' and they perform just fine. I've never gotten mine up to 135mph. I commend you for being a better man than me! ;-)
BTW, TireRack does not give the GT II's a very good review. Oh well, I'll worry about that in 50,000 miles.
Kinda skinny for that much power don't ya think? They're only speed rated for like 120 mph I believe, too. Careful going over that, they aren't made to go that fast. I've used 255-60-15s in Goodyear and Cooper tires and was rather unimpressed with the road handling characteristics of both.
But ey if you're just looking to go for a cruise and have fun they should be fine. With them being so skinny you won't waste as much gas on the freeway.
I think my stepdad's Kawasaki has wider than 225, though...
