has anyone had luck dying late model seatbelts? I have some late model F body belts for my 71 but the tan is not the same as mine. has anyone tried to dye them? has it held up? it would not be a total color change just a shade darker. I was thinking of the liquid corvette america/sems dye.
i dont know if that will work but i could tell you that on my 79 i had no luck with the ritz fabric you buy in the supermarket. gave it a try because it was cheap. but had no results. ended up sending them to ssnake-oyl.com for a reweb
I used the Ritz dye from Wally world to dye mine from GREY to RED. Dyed them twice and most washed out. It did turn them a shade of pink. I ended up spraying them with interior paint-dye from Corvette America. They were stiff at first but they've softened up, and they match the interior now.
hey man, I acutally just did mine 2 days ago...they're stock 79 belts that were in tan....I 'm going with a black interior now, so of course i dyed them black....I've set them in the dye twice already and they're sort of a dark dark charcoal right now(which i can live with that)....
heres a hint though, when you use the rit dye....get some plastic gloves and pour it on the belt directly and kinda rub it in a little making sure you cover inside the loops and everything.....runs some hot water in a bucket/pan whatever....just enough to submerge them, and try and use as little water as possible....i added some salt even though it's not cottom...then stirred every 15 minutes or so a few times, then let sit over night....washed the excess dye out and now they're almost pure black....
If i get a free second tomorrow i'll take a picture of them, i've only done the lower "buckle" part so far.....
i used the rit dye and had great results. i went from grey to black and the only problem i found is that you need lots of drying time so the color wont rub on other interior parts

That's great news. I used Duplicolor on my interior to dye it from camel to black. I dyed the strap that holds down the T-tops and they look good but were stiff so I didn't want to do that to the seat belts. Now that I know they soften up after some use I'll definitely be doing that to the seat belts as well.
