Default Door Gap

I'm going to look at a 78 Corvette tomorrow and in the photos I was sent it looks like there is a fairly wide gap between the front of the door and the front fender on the passenger side. About how wide should the gap be. It appears to be about the same all the way down. Should it be the same on both sides? Thanks.

It should be the same on both sides - front and back of door should also be the same. If a gap is wider, it could indicate a problem of some kind: an accident which bent the frame, or hidden rust in the bird cage which would allow the door to sag. (Unless the doors are left open all the time, there is no other reason for them to sag.) Check the gaps on the hood at the same time. They should be even all around too...

Good luck

The factory tried to get the gaps to 1/4" or 3/8". Anything larger could indicate the fenders have come unbonded at the doors.

These are good. If you get this close, call it a day!!

A big gap could also mean the car was in a collision and for what ever reason, the nose section was not properly bonded back into place.
