Default 82 Trailing Arm rebuild

Help! I need some advice,

What is the opinion on rebuilding the trailing arms (bushings, parking brakes, and the wheel bearings) on the rear of my 82. I have had lots of fun getting them apart, now I not sure that I can find good info on the rebuild.
How much will I save verses trading them in for rebuilt ones?

Also how do you remove the brake dust cover shield from the attached bracket? Can someone suggest a good book with illustrations to guide me along?

Which dust cover are you talking about?

As far as the rebuild goes, there are some things that are difficult to do at home. I sent my bearing supports out for proper setup, then reassembled everything at home. Do you have a press?

I would buy rebuilts or send your in. By the time you buy all the tools needed there isn't much difference and heaven forbid you do it wrong

Sounds like Van Steel or Biars do quality work

Check out vansteel.com also. You can exchange your trailing arms for rebuilt ones. I have a pair of rebuilts from them and I can tell you that they are excellent quality.

Same questions - do you have a press? You really need one for the job. There are also some specialty tools that are needed to correctly set up the bearings. As far as books go, the shop manual has good illustrations. There are also quite a few threads here illustrating the rebuild procedure. Read the "Search!" sticky in the Tech section.

The dust cover, if it's the one I think you're talking about, should pop off fairly easily with a screwdriver once the bearing support is removed from the trailing arm.

I had forum member GTR1999 set up a new set of Timken bearings to my supports, he sent them back to me, and I assembled the supports to the arms and pressed the spindle and bearings together at home. I used an old rotor as a press table for part of the operation.

Any tips on rebuilding the Front Wheel Bearings? Mine are starting to squeek every other rotation on the right side but I should go in and do both sides to be safe. Any specials tools or tips needed? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Fronts are quite simple. You need a hammer, a brass drift, a bearing race driver, bearing greaser, a torque wrench and the new bearings and seals. The service manual has the setup procedure. I think it's also been posted here - the "Search!" sticky in the Tech section should help.
