I have a mallory dist. on my 383 now and the weights are getting hung up somehow and not allowing any advance. I see a procomp hei on ebay for $46. Is this junk. I also saw a msd street fire for $130. Is this a good dist. Any suggestions are welcome.

Take it apart and clean it, plus take the weights off and put on a oil stone to remove any burrs, common problem esp with aftermarket ones that are stamped poorly.

Get an old vacuum advance GM HEI. Have it rebuilt/recurved.

I`m more interested in a new one rather than repairing an old one. I didn`t think the procomp was the answer but you never know till you ask. What`s a good dist. at a reasonable price?

Sometimes the mainshaft gets "gummy" and really hurts the mechanical advance.

Mine was set at 36@1500rpms, then I used one light and one heavy spring, it went to 36 @2000, then I used both my old heavy springs and it went right to 36 @2500.
I don't use the canister .
Its also shiny , has a good cap ,and if its like mine comes with an Accel coil top, and mine is even red.
One other thing is they advertise a 48000 coil.
So gap your plugs .005 wider to take advantage of the hotter spark.
It really does work, I experiminted one time with spark plugs gaps and went real wide to real narrow and found you lose power being to wide but have raw gas smell with too narrow.
I use 93 octane and it smells like racing fuel out the pipes!

I have one that I never installed, Im a little concerned that the gear is made of a weaker material and with a hv oil pump it may get damage and damage my new motor. Ive been thinking about putting it in and getting my timing tuned in but might change bottom gear to the one I have in the car now that has only 2000 plus miles on it. Or swapping the coil and stuff from the pro dist into mine not sure what ill do yet. Car is running awesome right now so might not do either

Best Regards
