Hi all,
Just returned from a trip where I was able to look over a '72 convert. This is being sold by the second owner, but the car had sat outside for a few years before he bought it, and he now keeps it covered outside. It has the original hardtop and is described as running strong with an engine rebuild prior to it sitting. He's asking $15k. The frame looked pretty solid but I'm new at this. The birdcage is admitted to be needing work but it stood out to me in the door openings as a big turn-off. I did not drive the car. It was originally steel gray but painted by the original owner. The passenger door did not fit right and really concerned me it might have been replaced. The paint was not salvagable.
I thought it too much of a project and continue to look. This will be my first Vette and I want to avoid a big mistake. Just bought the buyers guide today. I am also looking at a nice coupe which I will post more pics when I go see it for the second time.
RUN away from this car, if you have 15 to spend , wait a little longer, save a little more, buy one done. You will have 35 grand into it before its done. Probably more.
just for fun and priceing, check out my posting in the for sale section. its under.." my vote for the ugliest 69 for sale this month." Appears to be a decent 69,priced at 11 or 12,but I hate the paint scheme on it. Aint mine,so who cares, right?
Wow, I knew it was too much for me but you guys were even more critical! I'm glad I went with my gut....
So it has serious rot, but how did the frame look? I thought it had a solid frame and looked pretty unmolested. Any positives?
No positives
I've been on the board for a few years and have seen better cars for the price. Just keep looking and stay away from any car that has that kind of rot, unless your getting it dirt cheap or buying it for parts.
I had a dealer say he could make good money parting out a complete bumper car if it was $3000. or less if not wrecked and a good front clip.I called a dealer about a front clip and was quoted $2750. ten years ago.
