Air cleaner base: dropped AND offset????
Does anybody know who makes an air cleaner base that is dropped and offset too?
I have a dropped base and an offset base. A 14x3 Ram Air Box doesn't clear the HEI dist with the drop base and doesn't fit under the hood with an offset base.
If I can't find one, I will probably have to modify the Ram Air Box to create an indentation to fit around the dist.

I can't picture the parts you have, but I have made several offset bases using Edelbrock drop bases. Offsetting allows distributor and choke clearance. If you have a welder it's not difficult to do. Just cut out the base around the carb opening and relocate it as desired. Tack weld it in place and cut some scrap 16 or 18ga flat stock to fill in the open area you created. Then weld around the entire patch and paint it except for the chrome edge.
You'll need to make an offset air cleaner stud as well. Measure the offset from carb center to air cleaner lid center. Take a length of threaded rod and heat it cherry red and bend it to make the offset.
The air cleaner below is offset 3/4" forward (distributor clearance) and 3/4" to the right (choke clearance) and it's only noticable when viewing directly in front.
You'll need to make an offset air cleaner stud as well. Measure the offset from carb center to air cleaner lid center. Take a length of threaded rod and heat it cherry red and bend it to make the offset.

This base has the same drop as the base I'm using now. I searched Summit and Jegs but didn't get any search hits because I was searching on "drop". This base is dropped and offset but only has "offset" in its name.
I noticed this base while browsing Jegs but passed it up because the description says, "The drop-base model works with 2-bbl Holley carbs only." I'll see how it fits when it arrives. If anything, I may have to modify one small area to fit around carb parts, but I'd rather modify a hidden part of the base than cut out the lower back rim of the Ram Air Box to fit around 2 spark plug wires on the dist cap.
So far, it looks like a C5 air bridge between the radiator and radiator support (with some mod) and 14x3 Ram Air Box are going to fit. I'm hoping my GM 350 HO crate won't have to suck hot air from the engine compartment anymore.

The Moroso base has a 1 1/2" offset. That's more than I really need or may be able to handle with the snorkel protruding from the front of the Ram Air Box.
