I have to agree. I did the same thing. Turned out great. If I get another ding in them, I can sand a polish again. No biggie and it beats the heck out of the going price for a set of repro's.
Thanks all I will sand and polish...I orded a set and sent them back, at the back of the door and rear wheel had too big of a gap. Laid them with the ones that came off the car and they were off in that area.
Be careful with the sanding. If you use a fine wet/dry paper with water and they are light scratches, you will be OK. These panels are anodized. That is a hard coating that is plated to the base aluminum. Once you cut through the anodized coating...it's over. (ask me how I know). I hope the scratches are minor.

When I reworked mine the existing scratches were too deep and extensive and required complete removal of the anodized coating. This meant extra sanding but the results were outstanding. I have found I only need to polish them on occasion (Power Metal or like) to keep them looking like mirrors...
