one of my dads cylinders isnt hitting, and he thought it was a set of worn plug wires, well he check that, and its not that, so he pulled off his #3 plug and found that its covered n oil, inside and out, he thinks now its bad valve gaskets

yes?, no?, input please
Miles
valve gaskets no, valve guides possibly.
could also be that particular plug wire is bad,
that plug was defective or not gapped correctly
even the distributor cap could be bad.
you have to do a little more digging and i would
start with a complete tuneup if it hasnt been done.
if it has then just replace that one wire and plug
and see what happens.
plug is fouled so replace, if it gets fouled again within a week to a month, rings or valve seals would be my first check. Do a compression test and go from there. Depending on mileage, valve seals would be something to think about replacing anyway. Does it smoke when you come to a stop after driving? If so, valve seals would be one of the culprits, compression test will tell you rings or guides..............B
Check spark plug wires, spark plug, and distributor cap. If one of those is defective, it will oil up. Or you can change the plug and swap a the plug wire with another cylinder (you already know that the other 7 cylinders are working OK). If you have a timing light you can see if that cylinder is firing regularly--after you've changed the plug.
