According to the NCRS Technical Information Manual, the service replacement size for the OEM F70-15 is a P215/70R15. However, I have P245s on my 1970 with no clearance issues.

Regarding dimensions, the OEM tire had a diameter of 26.92" and tread width of 6.26".

If you go to a larger tire than the 215's, you may want to go to a shorter tire height...say a 60 series. 245/60/15's will have about the same tire diameter as the F70-15's, I believe.

Running 265/50/15, will throw off the stock speedo and rubs the frame up front if you turn too sharp but damn they look

Thanks everyone. I have been running 235/60/15 for some time. But I also have been experiencing what I believe to be heavier steering as well. I have completely checked-out or rebuilt the power steering system. Including putting gauges on the output of the pump to make sure it is putting out correct pressure, which it is. have adjusted the steering box to the correct ft/lbs of torque, and the ball joints and linkage are free when separated and checked. When the car is sitting still with engine running, you can turn the wheels lock to lock on hard pavement. When you make a turn while driving the wheel readily returns to center without assistance. But the effort to turn the wheels in any turn such as parallel parking or moving off in a turn is always hand-over-hand. And while driving any distance it is physically tiring to steer the car. I'm just wondering, could it be the tires.
It's an 'Old Chevy'. With some mods.

Yes it is likely the tires. I had a 71 with manual steering and 235/60s. It was very difficult to steer when parking and moving slowly. After I changed to 225/70s the steering effort was much improved.
