Default New guy here

Hello everyone! My first post here(of many!)

My name is Randy, I am fixing up my mother-in-laws 79 Vette for her, her and my father-in-law bought the car new(same year my wife was born) and it only has 83k on it but it is in terrible shape. The interior is shot, the original paint is junk and even the body seams are coming apart on the rear quarters but the car is gunna get fixed hehe.

I have done quite a bit just to get the car back to roadworthy here recently. I haven't got everything installed but most of it is.

I have already installed:

All four calipers(bought rebuilt units from Carquest)
New brake pads(all four corners)
New brake hoses
a couple of the metal brake lines
installed a rebuilt mastercylinder
new tires(Firestone Indy 500 225-70-15)
rebuilt the original carb
New plugs/wires
Reman powersteering pump(twice ggrrrr)
NEW powersteering valve/ram/all hoses(from Zip)
New centercaps for the wheels
New **** for the wipers
Door handle springs(M.A. Motorworks)
New air cleaner flexible ducts(MAM)

I have got but still need to install:

Drivers side window regulator repair piece(MAM)
2.5 aluminumized dual exhaust with turbo mufflers
NEW Dual exhaust pipe hanger at trans mount(MAM)

There is still a ton to do but as long as I can get the car driveable I will be happy. I couldn't believe it but the rear axles/joints all seem to be in good shape.

Anyhow I will be on the lookout for some interior pieces(turnsignal lever) and I will be even looking to sell a few things(used PS valve/ram)

I don't suppose there are any other members here from around North East Missouri?

Randy

Randy, welcome to the Corvette Forum. Lots of great folks here that should be able to answer just about any question you can have about corvettes.

As far as members in NE Missouri I would just about bet there are members somewhere around there. I am sure some will chime in if they come across this post.

Is it just your liver, or the rest of you as well?

Randy,

Welcome to the forum. Looks like you are off to a typical start when working on an old vette.

I noticed you used remanned calipers from carquest. I did the same thing and ended up taking all four back because two blew out while I was driving . I then went to vette brakes and ordered a new set with the stainless and o-ring design. No problems since.

Hopefully you wont have the same problem.

Best of luck!

Cheers,

Crunch

Hey I think I sold you a serpentine belt setup a while back(you drive the nice black Durango right, I can't remember your name) Glad to see you on here, hehe already met a member.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Hopefully I won't have a problem with the calipers, haven't yet but have only put about 15 miles on the car since I repaired the brakes.

Today I installed the 2.5 exhaust, the front section fits perfect but the rear sections could use some improvements, I had to cut 6" off the passenger side pipe and the drivers side pipe was about 6" short so I had to turn the muffler over so now the tailpipes don't look right as both mufflers are set the same for the offsets(just looks crappy IMO) plus I need to get some rear hangers.

Hey man, yeah that's me. How's the TPI motor project coming? I seem to remember you trying to sell me that '79. Funny how things work out, and now you're fixing it up.

Yeah I was trying to sell it but now my mother-in-law is wanting to drive it a little while her other car is in the shop. She honestly has no need for a Corvette but it's hers.

Oh my Monte Carlo is doing good. I can't remember exactly how far along on my project I was when you stopped by but I got the T5 in the SS now and I got my hood painted and on, she looks pretty sharp.

Here is a pic of my 1988 SS, 305 TPI/T5, 2.5" dual exhaust, ZQ8 wheels, aftermarket hood, 2/1 drop and other mods:

Looks great Randy. Hey, there is a big show in Independence on Aug. 11th I think, and you should try to get that '79 ready for that show. I know I'll be there with a few of the local guys.

Yeah I don't think the 79 will be ready by then, might be roadworthy but the interior is trashed(looking for a place to buy an interior package BTW) and the body needs a bunch of work too, not busted just rough. Car sat outside too much.

I know a few great body and paint guys that might cut you a break when you get to that point if you don't mind a tiny drive. Several here in Columbia and another in Macon.

Right on Larry. I have already designed the logo, have purchased a domain and hosting, and have begin some of the online aps which I'm hoping will include an interactive registry, a Columbia Sharks Forum, classifieds, and a few other goodies.

Curt and I are gonna do this up right.
