Default 1972 Tire Size

Hello! I need the forum's help! My '72 currently has Crager rims but not for long! I purchased a set of the 15x8 rally wheels that are supposed to be on the car. My only problem is that no one can seem to give me a straight answer as to what size tires to throw on them. Ideally, I'd like something with raised white letters but some places are telling me that the tires with the raised letters don't come in the right size or they'd be too big... and people have given me like 4 different tire sizes! HELP! What size tires are supposed to be on there? And do they exist with raised white letters? I don't need super high performance tires... because I just do a lot of cruising...

I replaced my tires with BF Goodrich Radial TA P225/75/R15 tires. I was told that this would be the recommended size replacement close to stock. I had no problem finding these with raised white letters.

When we put the tires on, they seemed a bit small for me, but I wanted the car to resemble the stock set up. You could go to a wider tire (P235 or P245), but would need to adjust the aspect ratio size (70 or 65) to accomdate the change in tread width.

I would recommend you visit some of the web sites like discounttire.com or tirerack.com and enter the base size tire of p225/75/15 and see what they recommend as some possible alternatives.

Good luck,
Dino

I also have the Radial TA with white letters - P22575R15 - "R" means
radial. Never a problem with rubbing. Cost about $85 to $100 and easy
to get.

So I've been searching the online sites - can't find the BFGs in 75, only 225/70R15... where did y'all get yours?

Sorry - mine are 225 70 R15. Any tire store can order them and bigger
stores will stock them.

My mistake, I put the 225/70/15 on too. Sorry about that. I just called back to the house and had my wife check for me.

Good luck,
Dino

Michelin makes the TA's at various factories in the USA and sometimes
because of demand/strikes can't supply enough. Here's what I did -
my local Service Station/Tire guy found out that stores in my region
may have one or two tires. So, I got two tires from Florida, one from
South Carolina, and one from Georgia. Had to pay $15 per tire in freight.
I don't go extremely fast so a matching set was not an issue.

I'm going to call my used tire guy and see if he has anything I could put on the rally wheels. If not, I'm going to see if he has 1 tire to put on the Cragers for now (bc I have one unrepairably flat tire which is what started all of this new tire/rim stuff!)... Nothing is every easy is it?! haha

Correct originals would be F70 15 redlines. There are reproductions from Coker tire.

http://store.coker.com/product.php?p...3&cat=0&page=1

available in raised white letter for the same price. Unless you are showing for NCRS competition, I would pass on the bias ply tires and go for radials.

Radial correct appearing 215/70/R15 redlines from Coker

http://store.coker.com/product.php?p...3&cat=0&page=1

Cheaper raised white letter

http://store.coker.com/product.php?p...0&cat=0&page=1

BTW, I have no connection to Coker. Good luck.

So you're saying that for $72 each, I could get these raised white letter tires in 215/70/R15 which they appear to have in stock... and they would fit on my 15x8 rally wheels? It seems too easy! haha You just might be my hero!

I would go with the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 for $71 each. I have them (bigger sizes) and love them plus they are rated quite high.

ditto

On my 68 I run 235/60/15 on all 4 and could easily fit the 245's on all four, and up to 255 in the back

... I might also suggest the 255/60-15 in the BFG and Tire Rack has them in stock for $80@. Some folks have slight rubbing issues with 255's on the front and go with a 245/60-15 which Tire Rack also has in stock for $83@.

(Tire Rack also has the Goodyear Eagle GT II available in 255/60-SR15 for $89@.)

I have 255/60-VR15's all the way around with no rubbing issues on my '73. (Tires are Goodyear's that are no longer available...).

Good luck... GUSTO

I run the 255/60/15 on my 81 with out a rub problem but I understand the early C3s the fender wells are tighter so they could rub on his car.
