What's the best way to lubricate the hood release cable? The springs on my hood latches are working properly, but the cable is too stiff to allow them to return to the closed position without manually pushing the hood release latch under the dash back in.
thanks, that's the answer i was hoping for. i didn't really want to go pulling it apart if all i needed to do was drop a little bit of oil down the sheath.
I took a plastic drinking straw, cut a slit about 3/8" in one end to make a (), squeezed it to make it as flat as my little illustration there, then pushed that end over the cable itself right at the end of the housing. A tiny squirt from my can of lube to fill the straw (Ha ha! Did it squirt back and hit you in the eye? Sorry!) and then push-pull-push-pull the handle to work the cable back and forth to work it into the housing. Do it half a dozen times at least. Oh yeah, put a rag under it, too. It's not as thorough as dissassembling but it's easy and it helps.
I've never yet met a hood release that does not have to be manualy pushed back in.
