I have a freinds 79 vette over for some maintence and he would like a set of aftermarket aluminum valve covers that will fit a stock 79 to replace stamped covers. Would like a set that fits without having to mod any thing else. dave

What kind of budget is he working with and what is he looking for? Does he want anything specific like fins or color or finish or text?
Tell your friend to be careful what he buys. A lot of the inexpensive stamped chrome valve covers on the market are thin gauge steel and are "springy"...they'll never seal...the hold down bolts will constantly back off and he'll have oil seepages that will drive him crazy. Many of these valve covers are really sharp to look at, but aren't worth a damn.
If cost is a factor, he should wait until he can afford some good heavy gauge stamped steel units or cast aluminum ones.
Tell him to go with the LT-1/L-82 valve covers... IMHO they are best look SB valve cover ever produced! Everything else I see looks cheap, but thats me!
