Default strange noises

vette is and has been making strange noises coming from i believe under the dash or blower motor. if i play with the fan switch and a/c controls i can make it stop but only for awhile. sunday i put the car in the garage and with the key in the on postion and motor not running i could not make it happen to locate it. also air would only come out bottom vents. so with the car running and vent selected on controler and fan in any position low or hi this niose happens. sound like a bearing niose from blower motor?????? what could it be????

Well, it could be bearing noise from the blower.
Pull it out and see if the thing is stiff. If it is you can oil up the bearings and get some more life out of it or replace it. As far as the vent thing goes, your gonna need to go thru the vac selector switch and its related tubing to make sure all the doors are working.
Here is a drawing with the vacuume stuff on it. It is for an 81 but your should be just about the same

I needed to put mufflers on my blower motor it was so loud. Took it out and cleaned it up...lasted about 3 weeks and started making noise again.

If the noise increases when you go from low speed to high speed on the blower motor you can be pretty sure it is the bearing or maybe something that is stuck in fan wheel, either way pull it out and see what is going on.

Good Luck!!!
Chris

Theres 5 or 6 screws that hold it in. Not real hard to get to, small hands help if you got them

i can see the small screws that hold it in place. but getting to them looks like another story. as for hands mine are the fat puggy kind not too good in tight areas. looks like the radiator overflow and a/c box has to be removed also?????????

Radiator overflow might get you some room, no need to pull the evaporator box tho. Use a 1/4" ratchet, extention and wobble joint if you have them. The screws are not long and will come out pretty easy

That is operated by a vac selector switch in the center console, it is the recirc door, selects inside or outside air
