Default 73 corvette center grill

I'm sure the subject has been discussed before. I wanted to find out if there is any vendors supplying reproducton or nos center grills for the 73 and 74 corvette, and if they aren't why not. The grill would be the finishing touch to my restored 73. I don't want to put a license plate up front.

Nobody I know of is making repro center grills. They show up on ebay periodically. They usually go for around $300 though.

Though I think you should not be looking on eBay, at least until I find mine

I've been trying to get one of these for several months now and haven't had any luck. They come up from time to time but the truth is that not very many were made in the first place as even in 73, most states required a front plate.

It's also a 73 only part so I doubt any of the aftermarket people see the value in reproducing it.

Oh, and while I'm raining on your parade, the front end looks REALLY good with the center grill.

74 also had a center grill.... now all the 73 grilles are one year only parts and same with the 74, but vendors still sell the outer grilles!

Unfortunately that was the answer I thought I was going to hear. It would be great to get an original, but not if I have to get a 2nd mortgage to do so. I've Put enough into that car, it never ends. maybee I'll stumble across on someday, or with enough motivation by 73 and 74 owners the will start reproducing one. But with my luck it will be made in China, and I wont buy it anyway.

12 August: 73 front center grill SOLD. 74 front center grill still available.

I have one NOS 1974 center front grill and one NOS 1973 center front grill. I had intended to install them on my 73 coupe and 73 convertible, but instead obtained original 1973/YOM plates for both cars since Texas is a "two license plate state".

I would sell either one for $300.00 plus shipping ($15.00?).

They will both fit either 73 or 74. The 73 has chrome edges. The 74 does not. Other than that they are identical.

E mail me if interested. Thanks!

I would love to but NY state requires front plates and I'm thinking that I really don't want to give one of our fine Troopers a reason to stop me to chat.

This thread is from 2007 (FYI). Don't know what the availability of these center grills are now. I'm amazed that someone hasn't started making reproductions out of good quality plastic! Make them for $3; sell them for $75.....

Corvette America has the center grille - it is "diecast" like the original. Part number 2209.

Correct die cast repros of both the 73 and 74 grills, came out in 2013. The test shots the maker got from his caster, were actually made from plastic. He considered making a run of cheaper plastic ones, along with the correct metal ones, but the difference in cost wasn't enough to make it worth bothering with.

If I remember right, he was going to need to retail the plastic ones for about $100, verse $130 for the metal one.

The OP, Deron, sold his 73 about three years ago, so I don't think he's going to be interested in your grills.
