Default Steering Column Painting

I took a mouse sander to knock off all of the old paint.
What would be the best Primer to use on these surfaces? Is it just a plastic - thus plastic primer?
Also, I was planning on using my leftover Interior Dye for the final coat.
Any opinions on this?
thanks

Mine was metal so idon't know if you need the primer (I would assume you should). After light sanding mine, I cleaned it up real good with lacquer thinner and used the ecklers interior dye. It looks great and it's held up well.

If you want paint to stick on plastic, you've got to use plastic primer IMHO

I wouldn't use paint thinner on plastic. Its ok on metal but not on plastic. It will eat into it. I use rubbing alcohol to clean the surface once done sanding. I painted the column in my Street Rod using a black chip guard paint recommended to me by a body shop years ago. I had to mix it up and spray it though my spray gun. Be careful using a sander on your steering column. All you really needed to do was to get yourself some wet sanding paper. I usually start off with 400 grit wet with a bucket of water and sand it down smooth. Prime all bare metal. A steering column wouldn't take very long to do.
