I would evacuate the old system and put in the new freon/oil and run it like that. If you have a problem, then look into replacing o-rings. (yes, to do it the right way, you should replace the o-rings)
Drain the old system, replace the freon and oil with R134 and try it out. If you have no leaks - then you don't have a problem. I bought R134 with a dye that shows up under ultra violet (shows up as yellow/green) - so far no leaks in my system
