I have a set of 1973 yj8's. They were purchased at a Chevrolet Dealer's parts department in suburban Philadelphia. The manufacture dates cast on the reverse side of each wheel are October 1972. The part number 329381 and the letters xm are also cast in the reverse side of each wheel. I have one of the original shipping boxes. It has a stamp shipped from American Racing to GM and the GM part number 329381.
You should post some pictures of the wheels showing the wheel, date and manufacturers number and carton. I think you have something here. I never knew American Racing was involved in the manufacture of these wheels. I wonder if that was true throught the '82 model year?
Here's a picture of my '73 Coupe with a set of '82 Corvette Wheels and Tires. Back in late '82 I purchase the whole set from a fellow who didn't want them on his new 1982 Corvette at the time. He wanted a wire type of aftermarket wheel instead so he sold me all 4 wheels, lugs nuts and tires back then for around $650 if I remember correctly. They were just taken off the car as new as they came from the factory. As you can see in the pictures they are still on my car since this is a recent digital picture taken being I don't drive the car much as it only has 25k miles on it. When I purchased this car from a friend of mine the original owner back in early '82 the car only had a little over 17k miles on the odometer.
Please tell me that is the orginal color!!!! My yellow 73 originally came with dark blue metallic and if thats the original color than thats what its gonna get for sure!!

FRSTR90, That is not only the original color it is the original paint on the car since 1973. The only thing that was painted since the car was purchased was the Ecklers exhaust filler panel I purchased back then in '82 when I put the '69 factory side exhaust on the car.

WOW!!!!!
You got a true gem there that is for sure. If I am not mistaken that color combo was quite rare! All I can say is that's a pretty cool car and keep up the good work by making sure she shines like a new penny!

Actually I have seen that color Blue quite a few times on forum members cars that they show online. At least it looks like the same color over the computer. I see a lot of them with black interior but I am sure plenty have the medium saddle interior like mine I would think. I have to say my '73 is probably one of the best Vettes that I have owned although it isn't driven much. You can't believe how cold the A/C is in this car especially taking it out on a 90 degree and above day. The car still seems like new to be honest with you. The '72 I had before this one during the 70's was a really nice car too. I have to scan some old pictures into my computer. I am curious to see if anyone on this forum has that Elkhart Green '72 Coupe with Cragar Wheels all around it if it still exists. The fellow I sold it to in New Jersey got in an accident with it back in '78-'79 where there was nose damage and if I remember correctly right front fender damage. He ended up letting the insurance company take the car. I am sure someone is driving it today.

With that being said, I wish you didn't live so far away, so i could get a good look of it. It has to be pretty cool to drive an all original survivor that is still in brand new condition! '73 is may favorite year out the C3's... If ya havent noticed
As for the '72 im def. sure its still around. post a thread in the general area and find out! That would be pretty cool to be able to find a car that you previously owned.
sm66p - sorry for hijacking you thread.. If you want to go with somewhat of an OEM look I do go with the '76 aluminum rims!
